An attribution to the 18th centruy Italian architect, decorator and scenographer Giovanni Niccolò Servandoni (1695-1766) has been suggested. A pupil of Giovanni Paolo Panini, Servandoni worked as a set designer in London before moving to Paris in 1724. From 1724 to 1742 he served as director of decorations at the Paris Opéra, becoming a member of the Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture in 1731.
