Traditionally but wrongly attributed to the Neoclassical German painter and engraver Johan Zoffany (1733-1810), the correct attribution of this very fine pastel drawing has proved elusive. The rustic genre subject is quite rare in the pastel medium, which was generally reserved for more formal portraiture.

Provenance

Private collection, in 2016.
