Eduard Stella studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule (the School of Applied Arts) in Vienna between 1900 and 1905, under the painter and graphic designer Carl Otto Czeschka, before completing his training with Heinrich Lefler at the Vienna Akademie between 1905 and 1909. Stella exhibited at the Vienna Secession between 1913 and 1919, and in 1921 became a member of the Wiener Künstlerhaus, where he regularly showed his work, and where in 1954 he won the golden laurel prize. Best known as a landscape artist, Stella also produced portraits and figurative scenes. He was also active as a stage designer for the Theater in der Josefstadt, the Neue Wiener Bühne and the Volkstheater, all in Vienna, and worked as a commercial artist. From 1939 he began teaching at the Wiener Frauenakademie and also, from 1942 onwards, at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts.
Works by Eduard Stella are today in the Wien Museum and in the collection of the University of Applied Arts in Vienna.
