Black chalk and grey wash, with framing lines in brown ink and pencil. Inscribed (by the artist) Steengroeven te / Bentheim on the verso.
Further inscribed Camberlyn 50 francs, in a modern hand, on the old backing sheet.

The same ramshackle building, seen from a different viewpoint, appears in another drawing in the same technique by Brondgeest, today in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.

A stylistically comparable drawing of a watermill by the artist, which is thought to depict a mill at Nordhorn, near Bentheim, was formerly in the collection of Hans van Leeuwen and was sold at auction in 1999 and 2014.
