This drawing dates from the period of William Suhr’s studies at the Akademie in Berlin. He had begun painting and drawing as a youth, and continued to draw throughout his life, working mainly in watercolour.

Given by the artist’s wife, Henriette Granville Suhr, to a private collector, New York.
