Ravier worked for his the majority of his career in and around Lyon and the Dauphiné, taking his subjects from the surrounding countryside around the towns of Crémieu and Morestel. One of three drawings by Ravier lent by a M. Ribert to the seminal exhibition of paintings, drawings, books, silks and other works of art by Lyonnais artists and craftsmen, held in 1925, the present sheet is a typical example of the artist’s drawings; poetic landscapes in which there is never any trace of a human presence.
M. Ribert (according to a label on the old backing board).
