Willem VAN DE VELDE (Leiden, 1633 - Greenwich, 1707)

Biography

The son of the distinguished Dutch marine painter Willem Van de Velde the Elder, Willem Van de Velde the Younger followed in his father’s footsteps as a painter and draughtsman of naval scenes, working in Holland and England. A large and comprehensive group of over seven hundred drawings by both Willem Van de Velde the Elder and Willem Van de Velde the Younger is today in the collection of the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, London.
