The composition of these three drawings, however, remains unconnected with any surviving painting or fresco by the artist, although it is possible that they were intended for the decoration of the chapel of the Château de Broglie in Eure, completed in 1865. In the Salon of that year, Petit exhibited a large drawing of The Church (possibly identifiable with the large drawing now in Nancy), which was described as a cartoon for part of the Château de Broglie decoration.
