This fine watercolour portrait is an excellent example of Ott’s assured draughtsmanship. A stylistically similar gouache and watercolour of A Seated Tanner Smoking his Pipe, signed and dated 1918, is in the collection of Yvonne and Gabriel Weisberg and is a promised gift to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. Another comparable drawing by Ott is a Portrait of the Artist’s Daughter, Lucienne, which was on the art market in 2001 and is today in a New York private collection.
